MC Shiraz 2021

$39 | Members $35.10

A fist in a velvet glove this vintage. Nice fruit aromatics of cherry and wild berries that carry to the palate. This wine is about elegance and power as the palate is smooth with plenty of fruit flavour and subtle tannins which gives no indication of the 15% alcohol meaning the ripe fruit carries the alcohol without a hint of warmth.

James Flynn Shiraz 2020

$80 | Members $72

Released on the Kings Birthday weekend for Heathcote On Show, we had great feedback on this vintage. (It went very well with the Beef Bourguignon on a cold winters day.) The 2020 actually spent 3 years in oak prior to bottling. The colour has the signature James Flynn and Heathcote depth of purple. The aroma of spice, mulberries, ripe cherry integrated French oak and subtle mint from the American oak. A lovely full bodied mid palate with balanced tannin for long ageing and yet a mouth filling smoothness leading to a long after taste. Try it now, then age it for 8 to 10 years and try another in 20 years.

Lewis Road Shiraz 2021

$29 | Members $26.10

I have only just been speaking to David Ashton-Lewis a descendant of the original Lewis family who owned my now vineyard site from the mid 1800’s. The original Lewis family grew fruit trees and vines on the site and I am sure they would be happy with the new 2021 vintage of their name sake wine. The 2021 Lewis Road Shiraz has similar vintage structure to the 2021 MC. The aroma displays a subtle mint from time in American oak and ripe cherry that carries to a full bodied but smooth palate.

Sangiovese 2022

$39 | Members: $35.10

NEW RELEASE

I have always loved this variety and style of wine. Natala and I were the first to plant Sangiovese grapes in the Heathcote region over 25 years ago. The colour displays that typical rose colour that even a newly made Sangiovese wine has. The aroma, very varietal in its savoury sourness of cherry fruit. The fruit aromatics are a little more mature due to its extra time in oak. The palate of medium weight berries leaves a velvety linger in the mid mouth with a clean firm tannin acid finish.

Drinking well now and try over the next 6-8 years.

Carménère 2021

$39 | Members $35.10

After the success of our 2020 vintage, we excited to releease the 2021 Flynn Carménère. This wine holds a great story to its history. Originally a variety of the Bordeaux region in France, it was thought extinct after the phylloxera infestation of the late 1800's. However, after genetic testing of a grape variety in Chile which was referred to as Merlot, it was found that the variety was actually Carménère. Very small plantings have been trialed in the Heathcote region and this fruit comes from one such experimental planting. Carménère is genetically related to Cabernet Sauvignon so it displays similar characteristics or blackcurrant aroma but adds spiciness, earthiness and a deep crimson colour. Our tiny productions of this wine was matured in older French oak barrels for 18 months.

Enjoy now and try progressively over the next 6-8 years

MC Shiraz Magnum 2021

MEMBERS ONLY - $135

COMPLIMENTARY FOR ANY ORDER OF TWO DOZEN OR MORE

The 1.5L bottle is perfect as a centrepiece at dinner parties and a great novelty for sharing with family and friends while entertaining. Wine in magnum also cellars for longer than a 750ml bottle. The larger the bottle the longer the ageing potential while sitting in your cellar. Its estimated that a 1.5L magnum will cellar twice as long as 750ml bottle however I would be more conservative than this with the time it's kept.

At Flynns Wines we hand bottle a small number of magnums (approximately 145) of the MC Shiraz annually. The glass is an imported Italian bottle which perfectly suits ageing in a larger vessel. Each bottle is individually numbered on the front label.

Lewis Road Shiraz 2021

Colour: Dark brick red
Aroma: Ripe red berries, with a touch of cloves and Christmas cake.
Palate: Rich yet soft wine. Full bodied without the heaviness.
Alcohol: 14.8%

This wine is dark red brick in colour, showing its extra time in barrel.

The aroma is ripe red berries, with a touch of cloves and Christmas cake. The oak is subtle, despite the wine being aged in older oak barrels for 3 years. The aged oak has provided a mild cedary background to the more forward fruit and spice aromas.

The immediate expression on the front to mid palate is a rich yet soft wine of mid to full body. The extra barrel ageing has integrated the fruit and oak and softened the tannins creating a smooth lingering finish.

Really enjoyable now or cellar for another 3-5 years.

Dirty Pink Rosé 2023

$29 | Members $26.10

A traditional French style blend of Grenache and Shiraz; the fruit is very gently pressed to release the first run juice without introducing the firm tannins from the skin that add darker colour and firm drying sensations on the palate. Perfect on a warm day well chilled or in front of the fire during winter.

Fiano 2023

$29 | Members $26.10

An Italian variety, Fiano displays the recent diversity of Mediterranean varieties that love the Heathcote environment. Having a history dating back to Roman times, mainly from the southern Italian area of Campania, it displays honeyed, spice and floral characteristics developing more nuttiness with age.

Vermentino 2023

$29 | Members $26.10

Lovely lean and crisp (wish I could say the same about myself after lockdown!). It's been a well-balanced vintage this year, a bit more rain, a little less heat, slower ripening of the berries and ideal pH levels has produced delicate aromatic, fruit driven whites. The Vermentino retains its savoury baked apple and citrus characters and with an alcohol level of just 12% allows the opening of the second bottle with friends.

The 2022 displays that tropical fruit aroma and extra texture on the palate from a short contact time with French oak. Don’t forget to lay down a few of these in your cellar and enjoy it in eight years' time when it develops that beautiful lusciousness, golden in colour, rich honey suckle aroma and mouth filling palate.
